Fabric Guide
Every TudungPeople scarf is tagged with its fabric, so you can shop by the material you love. This guide explains each fabric we use, which of our lines are made from it, and how to care for it. You can also filter any scarf collection by Material.
Which fabric should I choose?
Opacity is the level recorded on our own product pages, on the five-point Opacity Scale: 1 is see-through, 5 is fully opaque. Ranges with no rating are marked.

Satin
Satin has a smooth face and a soft sheen that dresses up any outfit. Our satins range from glossy satin silk to matte and textured finishes that show fewer creases.

Chiffon
Chiffon is light and airy, with a soft, flowing drape. Textured and crepe chiffons have a subtle grain that hides small creases.

Crepe
Crepe has a fine, grainy surface that gives the fabric body, so it holds a neat shape.

Jersey
Jersey is a knit with natural stretch, so it moves with you and needs little or no ironing.

Lycra
Lycra is soft and stretchy, which makes it easy to slip on for instant styles.

Modal
Modal is a soft rayon fabric with a smooth, fluid drape.

Our polyester khimars use georgette, a light fabric with a gentle texture.

How to Care for Your Scarves
All of our scarves share the same care instructions:
- Hand wash recommended
- Do not soak or bleach
- Do not use fabric softener
- Do not tumble dry, dry flat
- Iron on low heat
Note: Fabric is only part of the story. How see-through a scarf is also depends on its weave and colour, so check the Opacity Scale on each product page.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Which fabric is coolest in Malaysian heat?
Voile, cotton and modal breathe the most, which is why Suri and the modal shawls suit long days out. Chiffon is the lightest to wear, while satin carries more weight and a firmer drape.
2. Which fabric is easiest for a first-time hijab wearer?
Lycra and polyspan, because they stretch and hold their shape. Hudaa slips on as an instant and Niya is a semi-instant with the inner already attached, so neither needs pinning.
3. Which fabrics need the least ironing?
Jersey, lycra and polyspan are knits, so they recover from folding on their own. Textured and crepe finishes, such as Muna and Nluxe, also hide small creases better than a glossy satin does.
4. How do I know if a scarf is see-through?
Every product page carries an opacity level from 1 to 5, and the table above shows the level recorded for each range. Level 1 needs an inner, level 5 is fully opaque. Colour matters too: the same fabric reads lighter in white than in black.
5. Do all the fabrics share the same care instructions?
Yes. Hand wash, no soaking or bleach, no fabric softener, dry flat rather than in a tumble dryer, and iron on low heat.
